Building the Base for Promoting Research in Food Science & Technology — Workshop at KoSFoST International Symposium, Korea
Daegu, Korea: As part of their outreach program for researchers and authors, Enago conducted a workshop in Korea that focused on introducing researchers to academic publishing. The event was organized by Korean Society of Food Science and Technology (KoSFoST) and held at Daegu Exhibition & Convention Center (EXCO) in Daegu, Korea. With the title “2016 KoSFoST International Symposium and Annual Meeting,” it was the perfect platform to promote research in food science and technology and bridge the gap between academia and the food industry. The audience, primarily Korean graduate students and early-stage researchers and professors, came away from the workshop with a better understanding of the basics of international publishing.
The theme of this year’s symposium, “Food Science for Daily Living via Innovation and Convergence,” was aptly selected for an organization devoted to the “advancement and dissemination of knowledge in broad areas of food science and technology that include chemistry, biochemistry, processing, engineering, safety, packaging, microbiology, biotechnology, and other food related disciplines.” Enago also hosted a booth at the event, and as an exhibitor, was pleased to interact with more than 2,000 attendees who stopped by to learn more about Enago’s English editing and publication support services. Concurrent to the trade show, the meeting’s plenary lectures covered topics ranging from “The Dangers of Food: Toxicity and Risk Assessment of Dietary Contaminants” to “Food Science Challenge for Feeding the World in 2050.”
Dr. Ogan Gurel, an entrepreneur and researcher with more than 30 years of experience in Life Sciences and Healthcare, was the speaker at the event. He holds a BA cum laude in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University, as well as an MD with honors from Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons. Throughout the course of his research career he has authored, co-authored, and refereed 16 articles that have been cited more than 185 times. He has also conducted more than 70 workshops, conferences, and seminars, and holds six patents to his credit.
Speaking of the workshop, Mr. BK Kang, Country Manager, Crimson Interactive Korea said, “This was a great learning event for us as well, as we had yet another opportunity to interact with many Korean students and international students. They all were very keen to learn about the publication process—topics like citation, references, and plagiarism were some of the key points that students wanted to know about.” He continued, “With no proper system in place to teach young researchers about academic writing, this workshop was a great source of information. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, and it is clear that these young researchers want more classes.” He further added, “Enago is absolutely committed to helping researchers at every career level share their work with an international audience, and seminars like these demonstrate Enago’s clear commitment to helping authors achieve their goal.”
