South Korea: As part of an extensive educational initiative for authors across Korea, Enago conducted a series of informative author workshops at four major universities—Yonsei University, Korea University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), and Hanyang University. The workshops, conducted between October 24 and November 1, 2016, attracted nearly 300 attendees comprising both early-stage and experienced groups of researchers. The topics centered on helping authors get published and how to avoid (and make the most of) journal rejection. All four workshops were received well and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
The sessions were conducted by Dr. Ogan Gurel, a noted academic professional who has more than 30 years of experience in Life Sciences and Healthcare. During his talks, he discussed the latest challenges and developments in academic publishing and stressed on the importance of publishing in internationally reputed journals. He also explained why manuscripts are often rejected by journals, providing an insight into how the peer review process works, before listing the obvious mistakes authors should be aware of to avoid rejection. An important objective of the workshops was to help authors maintain a positive outlook while dealing with journal rejection, equipping them with the tools to resubmit their paper with confidence. Dr. Gurel gave them valuable advice on the importance of correctly responding to reviewer comments and revising papers to make them publication-ready.
